Trip to Dracula's Land

On the other side of the thick forests of the Carpathians, no matter from which direction you come, lays Transylvania. The German population, known as Saxons, who came down in the 12th and 13th centuries, called it Siebenbürgen, "seven fortresses". They came to create a bulwark, together with Hungarians and Romanians, against the intruders from east. And, besides the seven big city-boroughs, they built lots of peasants-boroughs, castles and church-boroughs, all of which were erected for defending reasons.

Transylvania is big - one could hardly know it after only one excursion. Our excursion covers its South-Eastern part, the so-called Ţara Bârsei, the Bârsa Land, which has its Capital at Braşov. We try, during this week to give you a real image of the inhabitants of its regions (Hungarian Siculi, German Saxons, and Romanians) by including in our programme towns and villages of all ethnic minorities or majorities. Where possible, direct contact with locals is facilitated.
