Renaissance and Folklore in Bucovina
Bucovina lies in Northern of Romania, in the Carpathians. This part of the country is renowned for its monasteries, which are wonderfully painted even on the exterior of their walls. Examples of such are Humor, Voroneţ and Suceviţa that represent the great themes of the Christendom. Interesting is also the life at monasteries, that reminds of the old Byzantium. And there also is a traditional folk art, enchanting the visitor. Programme: 1st day: Bucharest - Piatra Neamţ Arrival on the Otopeni International Airport, Bucharest and drive through Mărăşeşti to Piatra Neamţ. Accommodation: Hotel in Piatra Neamţ 2nd day: Piatra Neamţ - Vama - Câmpulung Visit the nuns in Văratec, who offer us a coffee and a cake, and to folk artists in the traditional village. In the afternoon, the Monastery and Borough of Neamţu. Vama: the old Jewish Cemetry and a traditional piece of machinery for working the wool. Accommodation in Hotel in Câmpulung Moldovenesc or Gura Humorului. 3rd day: Câmpulung - Humor Nunnery, Arbore Wood Museum and market in Câmpulung Moldovenesc. Drive to the Humor nunnery. Visit to folk artists. Further through Solca to Arbore, a unique church amongst the painted ones. Accommodation in Hotel in Câmpulung Moldovenesc. 4th day: Moldoviţa and Voroneţ Up and downhill drive to the Moldoviţa Convent. Along the Moldoviţa Valley, we will stop at the Voroneţ, the peak of the Romanian Renaissance painting, known as the Sixtin Chapel of the East. Accommodation in Hotel in Câmpulung Moldovenesc or Gura Humorului. 5th day: Marginea - Suceviţa - Putna Drive to Marginea, to visit an old pottery centre and the Suceviţa Convent, the last church with marvelous frescoes on the outer side of the walls, which show baroque features. Walk or drive to Putna Monastery, necrople of Ştefan the Great's family. The Museum in Putna and the Isolation of the monk Daniil. Accommodation in Hotel in Câmpulung Moldovenesc or Gura Humorului. 6th day: Dragomirna - Suceava - Bacău Drive to the birthplace of an important Romanian composer, Ciprian Porumbescu. Visiting the museum you will have the opportunity to listen to some music. Visit the Dragomirna Convent, with wonderful works of stonemason and unusual proportions. Suceava is one of the nicest boroughs in the area. Accommodation in Hotel in Bacău 7th day: Bucharest Transfer to the Otopeni International Airport, Bucharest. On request, a supplementary day in Bucharest with city tour. Number of participants: at least 2 Travel dates: Saturday-Saturday. Duration: our standard programme is eight days long, but other durations are available on request.
