With Halloween approaching, it is the time of year that folk's thoughts start to turn to things like vampires, ghosts and goblins. And as you all know, the most famous vampire is Dracula. Many people do not know that there was actually a real-life Dracula. He was a prince in Transilvania, which is found in what is now modern Romania.

Visitors can travel in Romania to see where Dracula reigned in the 15th century and practiced his merciless craft of torturing his enemies by impaling them on stakes. Thus the name of Vlad the Impaler, which was given due to the cruel staking torture he practiced, his reputation for brutality spreading throughout Europe. That is why Bram Stoker took his name to create the famous vampire.

One of the best ways to experience the legends that surround this historical person who inspired the famous vampire is to go to Romania and experience a tour of the beautiful area of Transilvania. The easiest way to get to the area is to fly to Bucharest, which is the capital of Romania, then drive into the Transilvania region.

Set in the Carpathians Mountains, this is a land of jagged cliffs and deep forests. It is a stunning landscape that is quite enchanting.

There are many stops to visit during a Transilvania travel adventure. The first stop coming from Bucharest is the fortress of Vlad the Impaler, which is set high in the reaches of the Carpathian Mountains. Visitors will also want to check out Sighisoara, which was the birthplace of Vlad Dracula.

Another important location during a tour in Transilvania is Brasov. This historic city still has its medieval center intact, and visitors can go on a guided walking tour of the beautiful city of Brasov, located in the centre of Romania. Brasov travel adventures are well worth the trip.
