This mountain landscape can be truly enchanting. Toweards midday you will be ascending the summit of Varful Moldoveanu. The route to the summit is quite steep and involves a small amount of easy scrambling, but once on the summit of the highest mountain in Romania, a clear weather day will reward your efforts with a 360º panorama of the entire ridge of Fagaras Mountains, as well as over to the Bucegi and Piatra Craiului ranges. After the obligatory photo, it’s time to return to Vistea Mare. The monks are happy to spend time with you and will welcome you at the daily service. Here is where we will be picked up by our support vehicle and transfered back to Zarnesti. If time permitting, we will enjoy an outdoor BarBQue at the foothills of the impressive Piatra Craiului ridge, overlooking Barsa valley. This small village with scattered houses over many hills, with great views of Piatra Craiului on one side an towards Bucegi Mountains, much higher in the horizon. You will have time observe the local life, see or even help them cut the hay with a scythe and pile it up on haystacks. Reaching the village of Bran it’s time to visit the famous “Castle Dracula”. This fortress is build to defend the border between Transylvania and Wallachia. Bram Stokers vampire book was only inspired from the true story but the location will give you a feeling of fear if you visit it towards dusk. Short transfer back to Zarnesti for your last night in Transylvania enjoying great romanian meal.
