During this trip we will discover the South-eastern part of Transylvania. You will ski in Bucegi Mountains and in Piatra Craiului Mountains.

Hut-to-hut ski touring involves traveling through mountain landscape inwinter on skis under human power rather than through the use of ski lifts,giving access to wild, isolated mountain terrain and a remote and pristinelandscape that is rarely experienced by resort-based skiers.

The Carpathian Mountains are fantastic places for ski touring with veryvaried terrain. A journey in the middle of pastoral tradition in completeosmosis with a wild nature sheltering brown bears, chamois, wolves andlynxes.

Your mountain guide will be an expert to ensure your travel that will add to the enjoyment of the trip.

Day1 The trip starts in Bucharest. Welcome at the airport. Transfer (~3.5h) at the foot of Piatra CraiuluiMountains. Night in guesthouse in Zarnesti.

Day2 A warm up ride with "picture post-card" landscapes, will allow us to discover the surroundings of Zarnesti and the piedmont of this beautiful mountain of “Piatra Craiului” (“King’s stone” in Romanian).Night in the same guesthouse as the night before.

Day3 Today we will ride along the stunning Northern ridge of Piatra Craiului, on Barsa valley thatseparates Piatra Craiului of Persani mountains, so close and so different. Along the way we will visitan ancient monastic shrine built in a cave. We end our ride in a very nice mountain hut on Barsavalley.

Day4 Today we stay away from civilization. From Plaiul Foii we will have a short transfer than we will enterin the heart of the national park through the Jurassic canyon of Zarnesti Gorges. We will ride up andwe enter in a wild tract of dense forest where we look for tracks, signs and markings left by large carnivores and other wild animals. A hot meal will wait for us at the Curmatura hut, in a beautifulenvironement. Night in a traditional guesthouse in a typical mountain village.

Day5 Today we descend to Bran where we can visit Bran Castle, better know like "Dracula" Castle. Formany years the castle was home to Queen Mary, Queen Victoria of England’s granddaughter. Than we will cross the historical border between the old principalities of Wallachia and Transylvania. Wego up to Fundatica, a Romanian traditional mountain village with many small and ancient houses, at the foot of Bucegi mountains. The inhabitants are livestock breeders; therefore the village has a longtime tradition in cheese preparing.

Day6 Our last ride will bring us in Postavaru mountain. The traverse of Postavaru mountain will happen through forests and alpine pasture, Ski descent till the heart of Brasov city, that was founded in the XIII century when the Teutonic Knights were sent here by the order of Andrew II of Hungary to fortify the border. You will be definitely charmed by its old center. Night in a small hotel in the center.

Day7 Transfer to the airport (~3.5h). Possible extra-night to visit Bucharest.

 

GUIDE English speaking local Romanian guide for the 5 days of ski touring, with a first-aid kit.1 guide till 7 people, 2 guides starting with 8 people. Welcome by one of our agent atthe airport.

TRANSFERS All transfers are by minibus, taxi or hotel vehicles. Day 1 and 7 Bucharest / PiatraCraiului and Bucegi / Bucharest about 3.5 hours.

LUGGAGE Luggage will be transferred by car during the rides. You only have to carry your thingsneeded for the day (picnic, camera...)

LODGING In guesthouses, double occupancy, exceptionally triple, with private facilities.

- 2 nights in Zarnesti, in guesthouse

- 1 nights in a charming mountain hut

- 1 night in Magura, in a traditional guesthouse

- 1 night in Moeciu, in a guesthouse

- 1 night in Brasov in small hotel OR equivalent guesthouse/hotel nearby.

 

MEALS 6 breakfasts, 5 picnics and 6 dinners to our guesthouses.

Not included: Drinks.
