The trip will take you to homes where women are still using the looms to make their own blankets, rugs, ... Also they are processing and preparing the wool needed for weaving, scrapping, spinning, dyeing 

we offer: Alternative itinerary for companion travellers that are less interested in the textile - day excursions including hiking and local crafts (wood work, the blacksmith, the distilery, ...)

Due to the different flights schedule, we have updated the itinerary to be able to be back in Bucharest one night earlier. So now you can take any flights; the meeting arrangements will be:
arrive in Bucharest on June 4th. First night will be in Bucharest
- the next day we will visit Bucharest also inside visit to the extremely interesting Peasant Museum. In the afternoon we will take the night train north to Maramures region where we will spend 5 days of study.
- the group will return in Bucharest on June 12, in the evening. For farewell dinner and overnight in Bucharest.
on June 13., you can take any early flight from Bucuresti Otopeni airport or Baneasa Airport - the airports are about 25-45 minutes away from the hotel in the center of Bucharest.

Detailed itinerary for the Romanian trip (land only)


Day 1: Arrival Day (D)
Arrive in Bucharest Airport and transfer to Hotel. Introduction dinner.


Day 2: Explore Bucharest (B, L, D)
Full day tour of Bucharest with visits at a very interesting museums � The Peasant Museum. Here you can admire the spiritual side of the villages in Romania 
In the afternoon we will get onboard the overnight train to Maramures region - the region overwhelmed by the most vivid and preserved traditions. We will arrive and get off the train at 7am the next day.


Day 3-7: "Hands On" - the Textile Study days (B, L, D)
full days to see, learn, do-it-yourself. You will be taken to homes where people are still using the looms, and even dyeing their own woll using natural dyes made from plants, leaves, roots. You will experience embroidery, wool spinning and much more.

the suggested itinerary is: (note: the itinerary will be updated once we will have the finnal number of participants to make the best out of this trip)

- day5: wash the wool + comb the wool and get it ready in yarns.
- day4: go for a walk across the fields to pickup the plants used for dyeing the wool. In the afternoon each one will take part in making it's own prefered colour. Spun threads from yarn.
- day5: check the loom: The threads of the warp are stretched between the pegs on the top and bottom of the frame. The weft, or woof, is then woven across the warp.
- day6: practive weaving, some on big looms, some on small looms that you can take home.
- day7: learn about lace, and how to make different lace paterns

For the spouses - not as interested in the textile work - we will offer alternate itinerary like hiking over the hills in the area, cultural visits to the famous wooden churches - UNESCO sites, visits at home-workshops like carpenters or coopers, or see the village distillery and how people can make their own wine and brandy or "palinka" - a double distilled plum drink.

in the late afternoon of day 7, we will take a transfer down south, overnight in the center of Transylvania probably in the city of Cluj Napoca or Bistrita.


Day 8: The medieval and rural Transyvlania to birthplace of Vlad Tepes - The Impaler(B, L, D)
Continue the journey south, the first stop will be Sighisoara - a UNESCO site listed as the best preserved medieval town continously inhabited by people.
time for visit and souvenirs in Sighisoara. Continue to a remote rural village like Saschiz or Viscri for visit and a special dinner before we arrive in Brasov for overnight


Day 9: across the Carpathians to Bucharest (B, L, D)
enjoy a City tour of the medieval town of Brasov. Continue south and visit Sinaia Monastery inspired by St Catherina Church on Mount Sinai and the Royal Summer Residence in Sinaia - The Peles Palace
End the day in Bucharest with a farewell dinner with folk show (traditional musicians and dancers) at a local restaurant in Bucharest.


Day 10: Departure day (B)
depending on your departure flights you can have a leisure morning around the hotel or we organize an early transfer to the airport.
