This Transilvanian Snowshoeing tour will take us in two different regions of the Carpathian Mountains, very appreciated by Romanian peoples. The Piatra Craiului and Bucegi Mountains are especially well preserved and offer perfect surroundings for hiking. You understand that once you will see the beauty and richness of the landscape. But what will impress you maybe even more are the rural areas where you will beimmersed. An unforgettable journey... A step back in time that will surprise you... Do not forget about the stop at the legendary Bran „Dracula's” Castle.

- climb Romania’s highest peak – Moldoveanu (2.544m)

- classic ridge walk along the Fagaras „Transilvanian Alps” ridge

- follow tracks of wolves, bears & lynxs in Piatra Craiului Nat. Park

- walk to Bran Castle – well known as „Dracula's Castle”

 

Group departures

we have set a few group departures – please not that you may be joined by clients from other tour operators on this trip.

The following departures are still open for bookings, but after we sort out the schedule for 2012, we will make them guaranteed to run, so you will pe able to book early the flights.

Trip details

Luggage The transfer of your luggage is ensured. You only have to carry your things needed for the day (e.g. picnic, camera)

Length & Level: 5 days of snow-shoeing. Easy to medium level (accessible to every person resonable fit, who walks regularly over the year). Maximum of 5 hours trekking a day. Some walks could change depending on the group level or the weather conditions or be interrupted by small transfers.

 

How to join us By air: Bucharest airports , Otopeni airport - OTP, or Baneasa Airport - BBU.

Detailed itinerary B – breakfast, L – Lunch, D – Dinner

 

Day 1: Arrive and transfer to hotel (D)

Group meeting at Bucharest Otopeni Airport and transfer to Zarnesti- (journey time approx 3 hours) A group transfer will be provided from Bucharest Otopeni Airport to the group hotel in Zarnesti, at the foothills of Piatra Craiului National Park. At dinner the guide will make a short presentation of the country and the route to be taken.

Accommodation family run guesthouse where you will enjoy wonderful homemade Romanian cooking

Individual arrivals – if you wish to take advantage of the group transfer do make sure you will be on time for the group transfer. Probably scheduled for aprox 16hours; but might vary depending on the flights. You can also find your own way to the first hotel, by private transfer, or train – details will be sent to you if requested.

Private transfers can also be arranged upon request

 

 

Day 2: day hike in Piatra Craiului National Park (BLD)

Today we begin our snowshoeing tour walking to one of the most traditional hut in the Carpathians Mountains. We will return to our village passing through the impressive gorges. Dinner and Overnight for the next 2 nights in a wooden guesthouse in Magura. (~ 5h)

 

 

Day 3: visit Dracula's Castle (BLD)

Depending on the weather we can practice different types of snowshoes or a sleigh ride that can lead us perhaps to Bran Castle. Dinner and Overnight in the same place as yesterday

 

 

Day 4: deeprs in Piatra Craiului National Park (BLD)

Today we hike to the foot of Piatra Craiului Ridge, a limestone peak of almost 30 km. From here we will have a magnificent panorama of the region we furrowed. We will trace our way through pastures, sheep, woods and scattered villages (~ 5h)

 

 

Day 5: across the mountian vilalges (BLD)

Today we will cross villages that reveal the countryside in complete harmony with nature. Among them, the village of Fundatica which is probably one of the best known for its pastoral traditions. Known for its smoked cheese, this village will give us the occasion of a nice stop for tasting. Dinner and Overnight for two nights in a agrotourism pension at the foot of the Bucegi massif. (~ 5 h)

 

 

Day 6: the Bucegi Mountains (BLD)

Our last walk will lead us in the Bucegi Natural Park. We assemble at the foot of the spectacular peak of Bucegi. This place offers us wonderful scenery and magnificent views along the ridge of Piatra Craiului we left the day before. Night in the same place as yesterday. (~ 5h).

 

 

Day 7: Bucharest - The Romanian Capital (BL)

Today we leave the mysterious Carpathian Mountains to spend the afternoon in the Romanian capital - Bucharest. We will spend a few hours that will give us an idea of the tormented history of Romania's twentieth century. Of different architectural styles we learn about the influences under which the city has lived: the influence of Ottoman and contemporary western influences to the east through the neo-classicism and socialist architecture. Surprising blends that will make you understand a culture in search of recognition. Night in a 3* hotel located in the heart of historic downtown.

 

Day 8: Bucharest at leisure & departure (B)

After breakfast it’s time to say goodbye to amazing Romania.

Group Departures- A single timed group transfer will be provided from hotel in Bucharest to Bucharest Otopeni Airport;

Private Departures – You will be transferred from your hotel to Bucharest Airport to coincide with check-in time for your departing flight.

Note: the daily itinerary is subject to minor changes upon weather conditions, without changing the character of the trip.

  • all land only transfers by minibus, taxi or carriages, single group transfers from/to airport

  • daily luggage transfer – so you do not need to carry extra items with while walking

  • some nights will be in a family run guesthouses or mini hotels with en-suite bathroom – other nights in mountain huts with basic facilities

  • specialized English speaking local guide with first aid kit.
